Advice for 1st Year Students

I think that, first they should do to welcome parties for freshmen held by many clubs. Because when they are joining new clubs at university, I think that it is so important to think whether they will fit into the clubs or not. And I also think they should join the parties held by different clubs even if they are not interested in them. There, they may find a new hobby or delight at university. It might change your life. Next, they should study hard and get as high grade as possible. I think that to get grades gets more difficult with semesters. Third, in our faculty, they should think carefully and investigate about department after next year. It is very important and affects their future! Fourth, during summer vacation, going to as many places as possible must be nice. Because we will not have such a long and free summer vacation. During long vacation, visiting many different places will expand our world. Some my friends say that we should do part-time jobs, but I don’t think so. It may be true that going to them helps us to know what work is, but we must study first. Therefore, People who don’t need money or don’t want to do them don’t have to go to part time jobs. I think that they should do what they want to, without forgetting to study and to think about their own future.

Blog Assignment #5: Accomplishments

2013

The biggest thing I accomplished this year is entrance into university. The reason is that my campus life will make my future. And the study for entrance examination was hard. I tried entrance examination of other university last year too, but I failed. And the university I entered this year was not the university of my first choice. However, now I think today’s my campus life is one of the best choice. Now I enjoy my campus life.

The second thing I accomplished this year is, to get a good grade on TOEIC. I heard that its score is very important for our future, so I wanted to make a high score on it. My best score is not so high, but I feel I achieved this year’s goal.

2014

The first thing I want to accomplish next year is to keep regular hours, and do something quickly without doing other unrelated things. Because, I couldn’t do them this year, and it may be so bad for my physical and mental health, and it is a waste of time. One of the reason why I can’t keep regular hours is that I don’t do things quickly. ‘Doing everything quickly’ has been my goal since I was a junior high school student. I must accomplish it next time!! And it will make my life change better dramatically.

Next, I want to act more aggressively. I’m a worrywart(?) and shy. I don’t like to start new things. I fear mistakes. But without starting something new, my world will not expand. So I want to try more to start new things next year.

Blog Assignment #4: Leadership

questions: 1) What qualities or characteristics make a good leader? 2) Are leaders born or made?

1)

In my opinion, to be a good leader, we should try some thongs to make the group better.

First, a good leader must not discriminate. It is natural that a person dislike someone who can’t get along with him or her, but a good leader must be fair with the members. I think this is one of the most important quality of a good leader.

Second, we should try to know what people in the group want or need. Listen carefully to their opinions. Then we should not ignore the minority opinions. A good leader should try to make decisions that every member agrees them, however it seem  almost impossible.

             However, even if a person is fair with the members and try to make the best decision for everyone, if he or she has no idea to solve the problem or can’t persuade or discuss with the members about the problems, he or she will never make the best decision and be a good leader. Enough knowledge and discussion skills must be necessary for a good leader too.

2)

              I think both is true. Some people must have a talent for a good leader. On the other hand, I think it so hard for an ordinary person to be a good leader. Because he or she must improve the behavior. However, after the hard effort, ordinary people would also be able to be a good leader, I think. 

Blog Writing Assignment #3: How would your life be different without the Internet?

     I think that the Internet is very useful and gives us a lot of entertainment. Today, personal computers and the Internet are necessary for our life. Then, how would our life be different without the Internet? I think that however how the Internet is useful, my life would be better in a sense without the Internet.

      Now many people enjoy the Internet life. Through it, we can send E-mails and enjoy playing games or listening to the musics, watching videos ,buying things... We can do a lot of things. But because of its too many functions, we tend to do nothing but use the Internet. I also enjoy doing searches, watching videos, and playing games on the internet. However, the amount of interesting information is too large. Without being careful, I can spend so long time on the internet. I can enjoy then, but during the time, I can't do anything which is more beneficial like going out and playing sports, or reading books, and so on. Staying at home and watching a monitor for long time is also bad for our health and eyes. I think that if there weren't the Internet, I couldn't get so many information, but I could spend more beneficial time.
     Next, I think that the amount of the information and the speed of transmission of information makes our life so busy. Through the Internet, we can get so many information that we need  immediately anytime, anywhere. It means that we can do more and more things in short time. As a result, I think that the time to wait and spend lazily is being lost.
     On the other hand, for public institutions, the lack of the Internet is serious problem. Because, without it, they can't collect and share so important information right now, about disaster or incidents like earthquake, tsunami and its damage.
     It is true that the internet is very useful, and without it there would be some problems for public institutions, but for personal life, I think that we can spend more beneficial and easygoing life without the internet.

Blog Writing Assignment #2: How is English important for your job or future?

      Today, globalization is going on. In Japan, some companies started to use English as their official language. And many brilliant foreign people come to Japan to get a job. Furthermore, few years after, English education is going to start from elementary school, in the third grade. It will make today's children much better English speaker than us.   So I think that in the future, when we work as a member of a major company, we will have to use English in so many situation. For example, in our own office as official language, at meetings, negotiations with foreign correspondents. I heard that it is so difficult to find a job which doesn't need English today.  

      So, I must study English hard now to get a better job after graduation. After that, now I'm not going to continue to study English if I don't have to use English for my job. Because unfortunately, I don't so interested in English, and I think I will have had skills for everyday conversation in English when I graduate from university.  However, in the future, probably I will have to use English for my work. Then, I will have to study English more. 
      Still, my immediate goal for English is that I don't have a difficulty to travel foreign country where people speak English. Now I think that I don't want to go anywhere I can't understand what people say or people can't understand what I say. That is one of the reason why I don't want to go abroad. So if I can use english well, The world will become close to me. 

Blog Writing Assignment #1 Changing your hometown

 I live in a certain city in Osaka. I think my hometown is good city to live in. Because my hometown is very convenient and comfortable. For example, there is a large relaxing park which has many trees and  grounds for playing tennis, baseball, etc. In the river near my house, there are many kind of animals, fishes and insects. And watching them makes me relaxed. There are many supermarkets and other shops near my house and around the city. Also, there are some train stations and many bus stops, and my hometown is near a big city. So we can go to a big city by train or bus easily. My hometown is very convenient to buy something or go somewhere, and has some relaxing places.
 But, there is a lot of traffic too. So, at night, around my house is still noisy. However there is a large park, there are too many houses or buildings in my hometown. It makes the city's scene worse.
 I think it is true that convenience is very important to live comfortably, but if  in my hometown, there were fewer houses and more trees or glass , and traffic is lighter and quieter, my hometown would be more comfortable city.
